Johnson Lake State Recreational Area

Located in Gosper County, 7 miles south of Lexington on U.S. HWY 283, just south of the Dawson and Gosper County line. Habitat includes a 2,000 acre reservoir and 68 acres of upland. The best birding is in late fall, winter and early spring when there are fewer people around. It is a good area for gulls, waterfowl, cormorants, eagles, loons and grebes. Excellent camping and water sports are hallmarks of this ever popular area. Though relatively small at 68 acres, the SRA packs a lot of outdoor fun and provides three access points to the lake. It's at the heart of a complex of lakes on the Tri-county canal. Camping, picnicking, swimming and an office on site.
