Rock Creek Lake State Recreation Area.

Dundy County: Benkelman. Area 165 acres. Located ten miles west and four miles north of Benkelman (northwest of the village of Parks), one mile south of state fish hatchery. Mostly sandsage and shortgrass prairie. This may be the best birding area in southwestern Nebraska. This 54-acre reservoir that is one of the few locations in the region where migrating water birds can rest; thus it attracts ducks, shorebirds and other water birds during both spring and fall. It also attracts many passerine migrants, especially in autumn. Burrowing owls have been seen here. The nearby fish hatchery often attracts ospreys. Park entry permit required.
